Caminandes: Gran Dillama - youtube.com
Caminandes is an independently produced short animated series, inspired by the good old Chuck Jones cartoons.
The first episode – Caminandes: Llama Drama – was produced by Pablo Vazquez, Beorn Leonard and Francesco Siddi at the Blender Institute as a fun challenge, and turned into a polished piece within a few weeks. The great soundtrack is from Jan Morgenstern. Caminandes: Llama Drama has received great appreciation online and it has been selected for screening by many animation festivals.
FLOSS and beyond
Caminandes is produced using FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software) such as Blender, the GIMP, Krita and Linux. We are releasing the next episode of Caminandes as an Open Movie Project, following the model of the Blender Foundation productions (Sintel, Tears of Steel, etc). This means that the episode will be available alongside all the assets used to make it and a series of tutorials and documentation explaining several technical and artistic aspects of the project. All this material will be released under a CC-BY license.
What does it mean?
“Caminandes” is short for “camino/caminar” (Spanish for path/walk) and Andes –the longest continental mountain range in the world, usually referred as the ‘spine of South America’. The southernmost region of the Americas is called Patagonia, where Pablo is from.
